Not too sure I agree with that. If you just mean for his leadership qualities alone rather than his ability as a player on the pitch I believe it is just leadership and experience.

Yeah which I why I said possibly.

I use br manager http://brmanager.go1.cc/V3/ and that takes into account form and energy when selecting a captain and/or kicker, so at least one Frenchman thinks that form and energy do affect leadership abilities, but I have no data to support or deny his conclusion.
