Argentina Tour Summer 2013
I know it's really early but can't help but get excited about this one, especially given how England are improving at the moment.
With numerous members of our set up likely to be selected for the Lions, who would you be looking to start (and who would you take) to Argentina in what looks like will be a cracking series?

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
Any leading players not with the Lions I'd send to a beach. This could well be the last chance for a decent rest ahead of 2015 RWC
Argies could well batter us, very hard place to tour. And I hear there's a spot of bother stemming from sod all history education in Argentina, and that oil sells rather well

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
Am hoping that the politics does not get too involved in the tour, there will always be a minority of idiots though. The last tour, whilst not as tense off the field last time out, went without incident.
If Lancaster sends first teamers on hols then we may well experience a battering but I always feel that they will learn more in defeat. Remember when the Aussies battered us 70+ when Wilko was just starting out... will be very interesting times.

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
I remember the Aussie fans who were going to do push ups amounting to their score, every time they scored. They had to give up early on that idea once their team started killing us

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
Due to the non-amazing nature of our back 3, I don't see any of them going. Brown may have been in better contention had he been playing FB.
But the interesting thing for me, is if none of them go, what Lancaster does in Argentina, and in general. Is he going to keep trying to find Ashton chances to get his form back, or is he going to send him to summer tackle camp (the problem is his heart not his technique I reckon). Is Goode going to be stuck with, will Brown/Foden keep playing on a wing, or will wingers be played there, with Brown/Foden competing for the FB spot. Will Daly be given a run around across the pitch, and maybe get his foot in the door with a long term bench spot. 36 + Barritt (Manu is likely to be gone), or are we going to try a different 13 option. If we see Barritt, I suspect that's a sign that he's long term in the XV, if we see 36 with a different 13, then the writing is on the wall for Barritt in my mind.
Farrell is probably gone, meaning Burns and Flood, I really hope Burns gets a lot of run outs, give him a chance to seriously threaten Farrells spot.

And let's hope Wade gets to play if we are going to try running the ball a bit more

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
Current England wingers
Ashton
Strettle
and it would seem
Foden
Brown
Next cabs off the rank
May
Wade
Sharples
Eastmond
Abdendanon
Biggs
Monye
And those pushing quickly for a chance
Watson
Nowell
Yarde
perhaps Benjamin
And if they're not going to be looked at as centres then the likes of Daly, Joseph (who's now nowhere it seems for many) and Lowe should really be considered.
And before all that what system do you want or envisage England playing.

England summer 2013 squad
Forwards (18)
Dave Attwood (Bath Rugby, 2 caps)
Rob Buchanan (Harlequins, uncapped)
Calum Clark (Northampton Saints, uncapped)
Alex Corbisiero (London Irish, 18 caps)
Paul Doran Jones (Northampton Saints, 4 caps)
Tom Johnson (Exeter Chiefs, 5 caps)
Matt Kvesic (Worcester Warriors, uncapped)
Joe Launchbury (London Wasps, 9 caps)
Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints, 20 caps)
Joe Marler (Harlequins, 10 caps)
Ben Morgan (Gloucester Rugby, 10 caps)
David Paice (London Irish, 6 caps)
Ed Slater (Leicester Tigers, uncapped)
Henry Thomas (Sale Sharks, uncapped)
Billy Vunipola (London Wasps, uncapped)
Rob Webber (Bath Rugby, 3 caps)
David Wilson (Bath Rugby, 26 caps)
Tom Wood (Northampton Saints, captain, 18 caps)
Backs (14)
Mike Brown (Harlequins, 16 caps)
Freddie Burns (Gloucester Rugby, 1 cap)
Lee Dickson (Northampton Saints, 7 caps)
Kyle Eastmond (Bath Rugby, uncapped)
Ben Foden (Northampton Saints, 30 caps)
Alex Goode (Saracens, 11 caps)
Jonathan Joseph (London Irish, 4 caps)
Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby, uncapped)
David Strettle (Saracens, 13 caps)
Joel Tomkins (Saracens, uncapped)
Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby, 4 caps)
Christian Wade (London Wasps, uncapped)
Richard Wigglesworth (Saracens, 12 caps)
Marland Yarde (London Irish, uncapped)
Players rested include Chris Robshaw, Danny Care (both Harlequins), Toby Flood (Leicester Tigers), Brad Barritt and Chris Ashton (both Saracens).
Anthony Allen (Leicester Tigers) and James Haskell (London Wasps) were not considered on medical grounds.
Just to keep this up to date.
A few expected, a few wanted, and a few surprises. Disappointed that Varndell wasn't given his shot, pleased that he's signed a 2 year contract with Wasps not long ago, else he'd have been off to France. Surprised Daly didn't get the call up, and that we're taking all 3 of our fullbacks, surely we can have "rested" Goode, perhaps he demanded to go for fear of losing his place?
Very surprised that Launch is going, was hoping he'd be rested, maybe the England side want to keep him with them and their physios, like they did with a few players over the 6 nations, and if he heals stick him in at the end. Attwood is doing the lineout calls at bath (right?) now, so potentially pairing with Launch is definitely on the cards.
Also a little surprised at the SH selection. It's good that Dickson is getting a go to be honest, he's seen as our mr reliable, so it's a nice idea to make sure he still is, but why aren't we looking at younger up and comers in place of Wigglesworth?
Overall, fairly positive in my mind, and hopefully a last hurrah for a few other players that we didn't want to see (Johnson etc), or a "This is the young guy we intend to replace you with, start performing here or you're gone"

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
I think post AP final Launch may be left at home, so only joining up for the Ba-Baas game really.
After the AP final whichever club's players were in the squads will also become available, a big issue given how many locks Leicester have

Re: Argentina Tour Summer 2013
The Pumas have unveiled their 28-man squad for the Test series against England and Georgia this summer.
Coach Santiago Phelan has called on Felipe Contepomi, who will retire at the end of the season, but he has opted to rest a host of stars with Marco Ayerza, Juan Imhoff, Juan Martin Hernandez, Horacio Agulla, Santiago Fernandez and Juan Figallo all missing from the party.
"It's a very demanding window which is a nice opportunity to see a lot of players in action," Phelan said. "They will be very intense matches and top notch. Although England won't have their players touring with the British & Irish Lions, they will be a top level team and (with players who) compete in very demanding leagues.”
Argentina Squad: Belisario Agulla , Gabriel Ascarate, Rodrigo Baez, Martín Bustos Moyano, Maximiliano Bustos, Tomás Carrio, Felipe Contepomi, Tomás Cubelli, Tomás De la Vega, Julio Farias Cabello, Mariano Glarza, Martín Garcia Veiga, Francisco Gomez Kodela, Mauricio Guidone, Pablo Henn, Martín Landajo, Tomas Leonardi, Esteban Lozada, Benjamín Macome, Benjamín Madero, Manuel Montero, Matías Orlando, Bruno Postiglioni, Guillermo Roan, Gonzalo Tiesi, Benjamin Urdapilleta, Tomás Vallejos Cinalli, Nicolás Vergallo.

Heard it said that it's not a terrible squad. Some first team players, and then a lot of impressive amateurs who've been doing well recently. So perhaps something like our own, a few solid first team and a lot of decent prospects.

Not much impressive about amateurs taking on the pros

Don't know about that - the amateurs might show the pros up by playing good rugby, rather than meandering through thoughtless choreographed plays.

10 on wards it looks FAR better than anything we put together in the 6Ns, and has more balance. Morgan gets game time, and congrats to the bath props who've been immense this season.
Launchbury needs a break though

still think once Saints and Leicester players can be included they may just leave Lunch at home.
and the backs certainly have move balance going forwards, but better could be quibbled
